People were just coming in, sitting down, and then helping themselves and leaving, because no one ever came to their tables or charged them. However, when I got to the restaurant, it became clear that it didn't matter, as there was no server. When I checked out, I mentioned the cold water, and the nice young man at the front desk, who was clearly frustrated by probably hearing the same thing every day, offered to comp my breakfast at the hotel restaurant, which was really nice. If you waited too long, you apparently got no warm water at all and had to take an actual cold shower. There were people complaining about it every time I passed the front desk. Luckily, I didn't have to worry about the shower much, because as I discovered quickly, along with the rest of the hotel- there is no hot water after about 8am. My room was clean but the toilet wasn't bolted down anymore, the shower had a strange leak on the side that caused the floor to flood whenever I took a shower, and multiple light bulbs were burnt out. I have used the pool/hot tub on previous visits, but it was closed on this visit and didn't look to be opening any time soon. The fitness area was, according to a fellow attendee, dirty and full of exposed cords. Housekeeping was very pleasant when we'd run in to them in the halls, but they were likely overwhelmed. The trash cans in every area of the hotel were overflowing. Every inch of wall was scuffed, worn, and chewed up. It's almost like not a single repair or improvement had been made since I stayed there last. The young man at the front desk was pleasant and it was clear he probably heard the same complaints all day, but just a few things to note- the hotel is in terrible shape. I have never had issues in the past- it's a Hilton, so I think we can agree that you expect a certain level of service. I come yearly to a conference that's held here. I will preface this by saying this is my fourth stay at this hotel, although my first since 2020 because of COVID. Richard Neal has been fishing all his life and currently works full time for a software company as the technical side of a sales team, and he travels extensively. The Frying Pan Tower opened officially on November 24, 1964, closed officially in 1992, and was empty nearly 20 years until 2010, when Neal purchased it. He won the auction in 2010 as the only bidder for $11,262! Of course the GSA (government services administration) wanted a bit more than that so after some interesting discussions, he ended up paying $85,000 for it. However, the company failed to make the down payment and the tower subsequently returned to government hands and was sold again in August 2010 for $85,000 to Richard Neal of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Coast Guard considered demolishing the tower for use as an artificial reef, but instead held an online auction where the winning bid was by a South Carolina diving and research firm, Shipwrecks, Inc., in 2009 for $515,000. The tower was replaced by a buoy in 2003 and no longer serves as an aid to navigation, but due to the structure attracting a wide range of aquatic life, it is an often visited site for fishermen and divers. The platform consists of two floors, and the subfloor is a living area of approximately 5,000 square feet that includes eight ocean facing bedrooms, a stainless steel kitchen, an office, a storage area, an original Coast Guard recreation area, and two bathrooms. The 80-foot light tower marks the shoals at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. The light tower is modeled after a steel oil drilling platform, known as a “Texas tower” on top of four steel legs that was engineered to be used as a lighthouse housing several Coast Guard members. The Frying Pan Tower is the old Coast Guard Light Station, built to keep the boats off of Frying Pan Shoals.Ī decommissioned lighthouse located approximately 39 miles southeast of Southport, North Carolina, and 32 miles from Bald Head Island, North Carolina, the light tower is only accessible by helicopter and boat. His friend Tom was also aboard the Frying Pan Tower, as well as a potential buyer and his two sons who were leaving when I arrived. I was soon dropped off on top of the tower and greeted by owner Richard Neal who invited me out to document this piece of national history. As we approached the steel box in the middle of the Atlantic, it was larger than life. From a distance, I could see a tiny structure. We ventured at 1,000 feet above the Atlantic in a bubble helicopter, and the farther we traveled, the bluer the ocean. I had a bird’s eye view of Oak Island Lighthouse, Bald Head Island Lighthouse and Cape Fear. In a few short moments, I was in the air overlooking North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands and the long Elizabeth River, and a network of salty creeks and canals off the Atlantic Ocean. When I arrived at High Tide Helicopters, I was a bit nervous and questioning my own sanity as I was about to ride in a helicopter for the first time to be dropped off approximately 35 miles offshore on the Frying Pan Shoals Light Tower. I left my house and drove 5.5 hours to Southport, N.C. On I took the approximate 350 mile journey from Hatteras Island to the Frying Pan Shoals Tower. When you use an actor or presenter who is not an expert in the subject matter and in addition he has to memorize texts, which in itself is very difficult, he can simply read his text on teleprompter and focus on the performance and gestures to bring the scene to life The teleprompter is an asset on most film shoots. When selecting a teleprompter, it is important to consider the quality of the glass and ensure that it meets the needs of your specific application. Additionally, high-quality glass is clearer, more scratch-resistant, and more durable than lower quality glass, which can further improve the presentation quality. Beam-splitter glass is specifically designed for teleprompter use and provides superior reflective properties compared to regular glass. In summary, the quality of the glass used in a teleprompter can have a significant impact on the overall quality of the presentation. Scratch-resistant and durable glass helps to ensure that the teleprompter will remain in good condition over time, reducing the need for costly repairs or replacements. Clearer glass allows the text to be displayed with greater clarity, making it easier to read for the presenter. High-quality glass is typically clearer, more scratch-resistant, and more durable than lower quality glass. In addition to the reflective properties, the quality of the glass itself can also impact the presentation quality. The glare can obscure the text and make it difficult to read, which can negatively impact the quality of the presentation. This reflection can be distracting for the presenter, as it creates a glare on the surface of the glass. Regular glass, on the other hand, reflects a much larger portion of the incoming light. This setup allows the presenter to see the text without the reflection of the camera or audience being visible in the shot. The reflected light is directed towards the presenter, while the unreflected light passes through the glass and is used to illuminate the text on the screen. This coating allows the glass to reflect a portion of the incoming light while allowing the remaining light to pass through the glass. The main difference between the two types of glass is the way they reflect lightīeam-splitter glass is coated with a thin layer of reflective material, typically aluminum or silver. Beam-splitter glass is specifically designed for teleprompter use, whereas regular glass is typically used in everyday applications. There are two primary types of glass used in teleprompters: beam-splitter glass and regular glass. The quality of the glass used in the teleprompter has a significant impact on the overall quality of the presentation. The prompter is usually made up of a monitor or a reflective surface, such as a glass panel. With a teleprompter, you can maintain eye contact with your audience, eliminate the need for notes or cue cards, and ensure that you deliver your message with confidence and precision.Ī teleprompter is a device used in television production, public speaking, and other events to display scripted text for the presenter to read while looking directly into the camera or audience. As the initial game areas were mainly ported from older SCS Software games, these older areas did not stand up to the quality of recent expansion packs. The initial reception from fans and media highlighted that areas such as the UK appeared to be unrealistic. Part of SCS Software's recent development philosophy for Euro Truck Simulator 2, amongst releasing paid downloadable map packs, is to improve old areas of the map. There are seven items of map downloadable content (DLC) that expand the game to more countries and locations, and multiple other truck and trailer DLCs.Įxcluding downloadable packs, the base game features Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, north-eastern France, Germany, northern Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, western Poland, Bratislava in Slovakia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The base game features 71 cities in twelve countries, over twenty types of cargo and over fifteen fictional European companies. This progression allows the player to take on better-paying jobs. Skill points can be used to unlock deliveries that require different ADR classes, longer distance deliveries, special cargo loads, fragile cargo loads, deliveries that are urgent and eco-driving. A skill point is awarded after each level-up. The player gains experience points after each delivery. The skills of the drivers hired by the player also grow with experience and the player can create a huge fleet of the trucks, each with the option of having their own trailer, and drivers to drive the fleet, in turn, expanding the business across Europe. Money earned in the game can be spent on upgrading or purchasing new customizable trucks and ownable trailers, hiring non-player character drivers to take on deliveries, buying more garages and expanding them to accommodate more trucks and drivers. As the player earns money or takes bank loans, they can eventually afford to buy themselves a truck, acquire a home garage, and start accepting better-paying jobs by using their own truck instead of being a driver for hire with equipment being provided. At first, the player can only take what is known as quick jobs-these jobs involve making hired driver deliveries while employed by a delivery company, with a provided truck and all expenses (fuel, road tolls, ferry crossings) covered. When starting out, players choose their headquarters location in any of the game map's cities. Players will have to spend money on refuelling, toll costs in certain countries, and maintenance costs if damage is incurred. The payload must be delivered to the destination within a given amount of time, and with the least amount of damage to the goods as possible, in order to get the most money and experience points possible. Players drive articulated trucks in an open world rendition of Europe, delivering loads to a designated locations in order to be compensated with money and experience points. The employees were rude and were not considerate especially when it was their mistake telling us 50 miles instead of 200 miles and making us wait 2 hours to deny getting a state inspection. Would it really have hurt them to tell us from the get go when we arrived? Plus, the real kicker is that they wanted us to pay again for the state inspection when they were the ones in the wrong. They let us wait over 2 hours for them to tell us to get the inspection done at a different location. We drove the car over 200 miles and waited over 2 hours for them to tell us to go back to Brodie to get our inspection. When we got to the location in Stassney, they told us the car a ctually needed to be driven 200 miles and they wanted us to come back after that was done. Even though she didn’t star in the other film, Olsen plays the husband of slaughtered Jonny and Tavare is the father of Matthew. It is hard to have that same distinction with the other characters in the film because only two of them are directly related to the previous film and that’s Becky Stills played by Maria Olsen and Herman (Jim Tavare). Jamie Bernadette plays daughter Christie, and from the very get-go has the same strong personality that her mother does, creating a sense of realism around these two central characters. If you’ve seen I Spit On Your Grave, you’ll remember the horrific and distressing rape and violence that was inflicted upon her and what lengths she went to to exact revenge on those inhumane men. Both Jennifer and Christie are kidnapped by two men in a van and taken back to the desolate and isolated rural town where everything happened in 1978, and soon discover that not everyone believed the attackers deserved what they got.Ĭamilla Keaton reprises her role as Jennifer Hills, which helps the audience to immediately connect with this woman in front of us. Even though they are both living their lives comfortably with the past events far behind them, the families of the men that Jennifer killed have been living with a sour taste in their mouth – one that can be sweetened by exacting their own revenge on her. Jennifer has found fame as the survivor of such an ordeal, and even has an adult daughter, Christie, who is one of the most famous models in the world. It has been forty years since Jennifer Hills was brutally gang raped and left for dead, only to seek revenge against her attackers and savagely slay them for what they did to her. However, Zeir Marchi of the original film needed to ride back on his fame and claim back the title, and therefore we have the latest film in the (what has now become) franchise: I Spit On Your Grave Deja Vu. Braunstein went on to release I Spit On Your Grave 3 in 2015, which was hit and miss with many audiences. Monroe saw that as his go-ahead to create another film I Spit On Your Grave 2 in 2013, which wasn’t favoured as much as his previous venture. In 2010 there was a direct remake of I Spit On Your Grave, which although not as hard-hitting as the original, was still well-made and watchable. Regardless of your own personal feelings towards the film, there is no denying that it spawned a legacy and gained cult status with many fans of the extreme horror genre. Now, many critics ponder on whether this rape revenge film is actually a feminist piece and was misunderstood all along. Many outlets at the time claimed that it glorified violence against women, and was gratuitous in it’s depiction of rape. With an offensive and aggressive title alone, there was no surprise that the horror movie itself was brutal, which led to it being heavily censored in some places, and outright banned in other countries, and also found itself placed on the UK’s notorious video nasty list. That film was none other than Meir Zarchi’s I Spit On Your Grave aka Day of the Woman. This despicable group wants to get revenge on Jennifer for the murders she commited, but Christie responds with bloody violence.īack in the 70s one of the most controversial films was released into the world in 1978, and shocked the audiences to their very core.
